::  Department of Biomedical Engineering (NSEC)  ::

Biomedical Engineering is an interdisciplinary and emerging field today and it is sitting at the cross-section of medicine, biological science and engineering. This exciting engineering program bridges the gap between medical sciences with engineering; biomedical engineers combine engineering principles with medical and biological sciences to design and innovate or create equipment, devices, smart health care system and many others health related accessories which makes our life more comfortable and simple. Biomedical engineers provide the engineering and technological solution to the medical field and today it is very much essential; without presence of sophisticated medical devices or system in the health care unit, it is impossible to provide quality treatment to the patients. Biomedical engineering is an extremely broad field with many opportunities for specialization or customized applications. Biomedical engineering is an up-coming area of engineering & technology directly linked with the health care industry and institutions, the job market also witnesses an exponential growth.

Netaji Subhash Engineering College (NSEC) [AICTE approved, MAKAUT (formerly known as WBUT) affiliated, NAAC accredited, NIRF 2020 and ARIIA 2020 ranked] has introduced 4-year full time B.Tech program in Bio-Medical Engineering since 2003 for the first time in the Eastern region of India with intake of 30. The Biomedical engineering program itself is accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation) in the year of 2016 and it is again reaccredited in the year of 2019 which ensured the excellence in quality education.

The student needs in depth knowledge of both engineering and biology to understand this challenging engineering discipline. Keep in mind of all domain of Biomedical engineering, curriculum of this program is well defined by considering all aspects. This program integrates the electrical, electronics, instrumentation and computer science engineering with medical sciences. The department provides in depth theoretical and practical knowledge about various kinds of biomedical instruments and systems and has well equipped laboratories for extensive measurement and analysis. The application of computers, digital systems for bio-signal acquisition, processing and data communication form the crucial part of the curriculum. The department conducts special lectures sessions where students find opportunities to interact with professionals and academicians from reputed industries and educational institutions for their knowledge enhancement and motivation. Along with these, the department also arranges Value Added Training (VAT), real time Industrial training, many internship programs in health care unit for enhancing their skill to get experience in real-life situation and make them industry ready. Completion of all courses in this outcome based program, quality biomedical engineering graduates are produced who can serve the society directly.

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Biomedical Engineering:
There are certain eligibility criteria for candidates wishing to pursue a career in biomedical engineering. Biomedical engineering of NSEC is a full time 4 years B. Tech program, which is approved by AICTE, India and affiliated by MAKAUT, WB. Eligibility criteria for admission, students should passed 10+2 with pass marks in physics, mathematics and chemistry or biology. Students should also have valid WBJEE rank or JEE Main (preferable), can take admission in this 4 years program. Diploma holder in any engineering discipline with valid JELET rank (preferable) can also take admission (lateral entry 3 year duration) in the 3rd semester directly.

Career Opportunities and Job Prospects of Biomedical Engineers:

Future of Biomedical Engineering
Employment of biomedical engineers is expected to grow at seven per cent from 2016 to 2026 which is comparatively high with respect to any other field. Present Industry shows the extensive capability of manufacturing of newly customized medical implants, innovative tools and instruments for the medical field. This revolution embraces automation and creates new manufacturing opportunities in the medical world. With the help of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of services (IoS), it creates a new virtual world. It creates connectivity and data exchange with the help of new manufacturing technologies, software, sensors, robots and other advanced information technologies. In future, Industry can create new opportunities and innovative routes for patient care system. New medical devices, arising in the research laboratories of biomedical engineers around the world, have completely altered the manner by which disease and trauma is dealt with by physicians, extending the quality and length of human life.
